The First 6 Months After Moving to Spain

Relocating to Spain begins with excitement.

Then reality arrives.

Then something quieter begins.

Months 1–2: discovery

Everything feels new.

Cafés, sunshine and slower mornings feel almost like a holiday.

At the same time, paperwork and logistics demand attention.

Months 3–4: routines form

You learn where to shop. Which café feels familiar. How the weekly rhythm works.

Small frustrations may appear:

• bureaucracy

• language barriers

• slower service rhythms

This is normal — and temporary.

❝ Belonging arrives in moments. ❞

Months 5–6: something shifts

You recognise faces.

You develop favourite places.

Daily life feels less like visiting and more like living.

What surprises people most

• how quickly routines form

• how much time is spent outdoors

• how priorities shift

• how “home” starts to feel different

At some point, you stop comparing.

You simply begin living.
